The blog is about things occurring in Japan. All topics are fair game. I have been deep in the Japanese global community for 20 years, so ask questions if you have any. The blog started out focusing on the many unusual and literally ancient animals in Japan. Over time people wanted to know, see, and read more, so I expanded the blog.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18140351565598255227noreply@blogger.comBlogger443125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-56599386336395829102023-11-14T03:46:00.003+09:002023-11-14T03:46:28.318+09:00The Side of Tokyo They Did not Show You!<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/qaoINNu79a0?si=Nm8XNfueALK2c3re" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-55399935285185006602023-11-13T22:24:00.010+09:002023-11-13T22:24:59.378+09:00Late-Night Fukuoka: Yatai Food Stalls and Stories Behind Them!<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/cb88evr3J60?si=VRkgcdAm6A0B-0Os" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com0Fukuoka, Japan33.5901838 130.40168885.2799499638211529 95.245438799999988 61.900417636178844 165.5579388tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-18518692167098014332021-09-16T23:49:00.003+09:002021-09-16T23:49:26.691+09:00Who Is Jizo Bosatsu?<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/3vEqttl6cvM" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com0Japan36.204824 138.2529247.8945901638211566 103.09667400000001 64.51505783617884 173.409174tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-28313910934858384062021-08-23T03:26:00.003+09:002021-08-23T03:26:46.452+09:00Our first day exploring Aomori, Japan!<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/JCulB0G570k" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com0Aomori, Japan40.8222197 140.747352414.512524135675918 105.59110240000001 67.131915264324078 175.9036024tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-68232613486886441162021-08-23T03:20:00.001+09:002021-08-23T03:20:13.807+09:00Inside Japan's Forest of Mononoke | [4K Solo Hike]<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/sZ4nCiJAw20" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com01691-4 Miyoshimachi, Miyoshi, Hiroshima 728-0021, Japan34.8153692 132.8451777.5332132229732309 97.688927 62.097525177026768 168.001427tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-27996146280874329232021-08-15T00:52:00.000+09:002021-08-15T00:52:13.905+09:00GoNorth Japan Livestream Tonight!!!!!<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/3nWSpxY4lHo" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com0Morioka, Iwate, Japan39.7019558 141.154330311.391721963821155 105.9980803 68.012189636178846 176.3105803tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-16386853588385667352021-08-03T01:25:00.002+09:002021-08-03T01:25:39.954+09:00Inside Japan's SLEEPER Train | $160 FIRST CLASS Room<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/aVT0BvWZcLg" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com0Tottori, Japan35.5011082 134.23510113.4388580857711233 99.078851100000009 67.563358314228878 169.3913511tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-88802306272278857742021-07-25T10:01:00.007+09:002021-07-25T10:01:55.614+09:00Is it hard to make friends in Japan?<iframe width="480" height="270" src="https://youtube.com/embed/wUw-mu1SaIc" frameborder="0"></iframe>Bryan Hayshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07808167478682831735noreply@blogger.com0Japan36.204824 138.2529247.8945901638211566 103.09667400000001 64.51505783617884 173.409174tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-265579593282086414.post-21590807388891802652021-06-23T22:32:00.001+09:002021-06-23T22:32:45.589+09:00Introducing Our TOP Spots In Northern Japan, Tohoku [Ft. Very interesting and odd catfish. Could have subspecies in the same lake.<br />

Also known as the Biwako-ohnamazu, this fish is also the largest fish in the lake. It can grow to be 5 feet long and weigh 331 pounds.</span><br />

<div class="jsx-1279085685" style="box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 14px;">
Companies around the world are racing to be the first to launch self-flying vehicles.</div>
<div class="jsx-1279085685" style="box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 14px;">
<strong style="box-sizing: inherit;">The news:</strong> Japanese electronics giant <span class="jsx-2473920458 storyLink" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><a class="" href="https://www.nec.com/" style="box-sizing: inherit;">NEC</a></span> tested a drone-like prototype yesterday inside a cage at one of its facilities in Abiko, Japan. It hovered about 3 meters (10 feet) above the ground for a minute. It didn’t have any passengers on board and was powered by a battery, <span class="jsx-2473920458 storyLink" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><a class="" href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-08-05/new-japanese-flying-car-gets-off-the-ground-for-about-a-minute" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Bloomberg</a></span> reports. NEC engineers spent about a year developing the model, which weighs about 150 kilograms (331 pounds) and is 3.9 meters (12.7 feet) long.</div>
<div class="jsx-1279085685" style="box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 14px;">
<strong style="box-sizing: inherit;">What do we call it?</strong> <span class="jsx-2473920458 storyLink" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><a class="" href="https://www.technologyreview.com/s/612891/when-will-we-have-flying-cars-maybe-sooner-than-you-think/" style="box-sizing: inherit;">“Flying car”</a></span> is a bit of a misleading name, given that it can’t go from driving on roads to flying. It’s basically a large drone, with four propellers, that can carry people.</div>
<div class="jsx-1279085685" style="box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 14px;">
<strong style="box-sizing: inherit;">Japan’s grand ambition:</strong> Japan’s government is hoping to position the country as a leader in the flying car not-quite-as-large-as-a-helicopter drone space. Its “road map” document says it plans to ship goods this way by 2023 and let people ride in the vehicles in its (very densely populated) cities by the 2030s.</div>
<div class="jsx-1279085685" style="box-sizing: inherit; margin-bottom: 14px;">
<strong style="box-sizing: inherit;">One of many:</strong> A number of companies, including <span class="jsx-2473920458 storyLink" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><a class="" href="https://www.technologyreview.com/f/612828/boeings-electric-autonomous-passenger-air-vehicle-just-had-its-first-flight/" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Boeing</a></span>, <span class="jsx-2473920458 storyLink" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><a class="" href="https://www.theverge.com/2018/2/22/17036750/airbus-vahana-flying-taxi-electric-first-flight" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Airbus,</a></span> and <span class="jsx-2473920458 storyLink" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><a class="" href="https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2019/jan/11/uber-partner-bell-reveals-design-for-flying-taxi-nexus-ces-vegas" style="box-sizing: inherit;">Uber</a></span>, are working on autonomous flying. It’s not quite clear who the target market is yet, though, beyond the super-wealthy, not to mention whether driverless “flying” taxis will be <span class="jsx-2473920458 storyLink" style="box-sizing: inherit;"><a class="" href="https://ftalphaville.ft.com/2019/04/29/1556557142000/Scoop--the-questionable-economics-of-autonomous-taxi-fleets/" style="box-sizing: inherit;">economically viable</a></span>. </div>

<strong style="-webkit-font-smoothing: auto !important; box-sizing: border-box !important;">The procedure: </strong>After a few hours of maneuvering, the spacecraft touched down on Ryugu’s surface at 9.15pm EDT yesterday. It then fired a bullet into the asteroid and collected some of the debris stirred up by the shot.</div>

<strong style="-webkit-font-smoothing: auto !important; box-sizing: border-box !important;">Next steps: </strong>Hayabusa2 is scheduled to depart for Earth at the end of this year, but before it does it has a final task: deploying a smaller rover called MINERVA-II2 later this summer. Its primary goal will be to explore in an environment where there is very little gravity.</div>

<strong style="-webkit-font-smoothing: auto !important; box-sizing: border-box !important;">Long game: </strong>Ancient asteroids like Ryugu provide clues about the formation of the early solar system (<a data-hs-link-id="0" href="https://www.technologyreview.com/s/613137/ryugu-is-a-heap-of-space-rubble-that-might-unlock-the-mysteries-of-water-on-earth/?utm_campaign=the_download.unpaid.engagement&utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=74547790&_hsenc=p2ANqtz--Jk_trqYUwQ40GuDb9I82lD1k-JUftNy3UEvqPOjqlygaa9GWqLF1AE2OkggkjVNHUGviLtEtzRq9u6rRepQqqinT7BCq_bdoJk1DBavNYvxZ9VGU" rel=" noopener" style="-webkit-font-smoothing: auto !important; border-bottom: none; box-sizing: border-box !important; color: #f90e1e; text-size-adjust: 100%;" target="_blank">including our own planet,)</a> which makes the samples Hayabusa2 has collected so important. Labs on Earth will be able to start analyzing its cargo once it finally arrives home towards the end of 2020.</div>
